President Iohannis expresses condolences over tragic train crash in India

President Klaus Iohannis has expressed condolences over a tragic railway accident that killed more than 260 people and injured 900 people in India, write Agerpres.

In a Twitter post on Saturday, he conveyed his „deepest condolences to the authorities and people of India in these times of grief and loss, caused by the tragic train crash in Odisha.”

At the same time, he extended his „wishes of swift recovery to the injured.”

„Romania stands with India in these difficult moments,” wrote Iohannis.

The death toll rose to 261 as search and rescue efforts ended on Saturday morning. The accident took place in Balasore district, Odisha state, where two passenger trains and a freight train collided on Friday evening.

This is the worst railway accident in India in two decades. With 68,000 kilometres of railway, India has the fourth longest railway in the world, carrying nearly 23 million passengers daily.
