President Klaus Iohannis welcomed on Tuesday at the Cotroceni Palace Montenegro’s Foreign Affairs Minister Filip Ivanovic, who is on an official visit to Bucharest, the Presidential Administration said.
President Iohannis reiterated Romania’s constant support for the Republic of Montenegro’s European integration process, as well as for the EU bid of the Western Balkans – a region of strategic importance for the Euro-Atlantic space and for the European continent’s security and stability.
During the meeting, the Romanian side’s willingness was reaffirmed to bilaterally provide the necessary European integration expertise, including on the basis of the 2024 – 2025 Plan of Action signed by the two Foreign Affairs ministries.
As far as the reforms required by the EU accession process are concerned, Klaus Iohannis advised the continuation of their implementation at a sustained pace, for the expeditious completion of the negotiation process, but also for the achievement of tangible results in the areas of interest for the Montenegrin citizens.
„The commitment to European values also means aligning with EU policies, such as the Common Foreign and Security Policy, one of the concrete ways to strengthen the European course,” the Presidential Administration said.
The talks also highlighted the benefits of integration, with special focus on the young generations.
President Iohannis expressed his appreciation for the special bilateral dynamics, referencing the visit to Bucharest of his Montenegrin counterpart Jakov Milatovic in March this year.
