President Klaus Iohannis is participating, on Thursday and Friday, in the 5th Summit of the European Political Community (EPC) and in the informal meeting of the European Council, which will take place in Budapest, Hungary, informs the Presidential Administration, on Wednesday, in a press release.

The European Political Community represents an intergovernmental format of political dialogue between European states for cooperation on issues of common interest, in order to strengthen security and stability on the European continent.

„The EPC summit in Budapest will include a plenary session, in which the discussions will focus on the security challenges facing Europe, with an emphasis on the situation in Ukraine, and round tables where the leaders will address specific topics of common interest, such as migration and economic security. During the debates, president Klaus Iohannis will reiterate the need for a united and firm position of the leaders regarding the security situation in the region, and also the need to continue to support the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine, in the context of the war of aggression initiated by Russia,” reads the cited source.

Also, the president of Romania will participate in the round table where issues related to migration will be debated, on which occasion he will plead, according to the Presidential Administration, for the identification of solutions at the European level in the field of managing illegal migration, in the short term, but also through a more comprehensive long-term approach, which would allow greater cohesion and efficiency at the European level in dealing with this phenomenon.

The informal meeting of the European Council, hosted in Budapest by the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, has in mind an in-depth debate on European competitiveness, a priority topic on the EU agenda in the coming years.

„The EU leaders’s objective is to adopt the Political Declaration on a New European Competitiveness Deal, which will guide the activity of the European institutions in the field, given the urgency to act decisively at the EU level in addressing the current challenges. During the debates, the president of Romania will emphasise the major role of cohesion and convergence, as tools for achieving the Union’s competitiveness objectives. President Klaus Iohannis will also plead for the elimination of all barriers on the Single Market and for full freedom of movement on all its components,” the Presidential Administration also showed.
