President Iohannis: We are deeply concerned about the disaster caused by the severe floods in Spain

Published on

President Klaus Iohannis on Wednesday published a message on the X platform showing compassion following the severe floods that hit Spain.

„We are deeply concerned and saddened by the loss of human life and the huge disaster caused by the severe floods in Spain. Romania is with Spain in these difficult times. We send our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims,” said the head of state.

Heavy rainfalls brought by a cold air front crossing southeastern Spain flooded roads and cities on Tuesday, prompting authorities in the most affected areas to advise residents to stay indoors and avoid all non-essential travel, Reuters reported.

Spain’s state meteorological agency, AEMET, issued a code red valid for the eastern Valencia region and the second-highest alert level for areas in southern Andalusia, where a train derailed due to heavy rainfall. The incident did not result in injuries.
