Presidential election Moldova/MEP Muresan: Moldova becomes stronger in its path to EU after Maia Sandu’s win

Published on

MEP Siegfried Muresan (European People’s Part/National Liberal Party) congratulated Maia Sandu on Monday morning for her win in the presidential election, which he claims was achieved in front of the most difficult opponent, „the Russian Federation and the unprecedented resources that it mobilized to manipulate, misinform and bribe Moldovan voters.”

„The election result is also a victory for the people of the Republic of Moldova who proved, once again, that they want a European future, a future in which the benefits of the European Union are felt in the lives and homes of all Moldovans. This is a victory for the citizens of the Republic of Moldova and a defeat for the Russian Federation,” said Muresan, the chair of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, in a press release.

He appreciated that both the pro-European victory in the presidential elections and the positive result of the referendum on joining the European Union make the Republic of Moldova a stronger state and better prepared for the accession process. „No one can now deny the desire of the people of Moldova to continue with their European integration,” he claimed.

Also, the PNL (National Liberal Party) MEP added that the result of the presidential elections and the referendum will determine the European Union to increase even more its support for the modernisation of Moldova, for the improvement of the living standards of the people and the country’s preparation for EU accession.

„As chair of the European Parliament’s Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, I will make sure that the European Union takes into account the will of the people expressed in the vote they gave, and that we offer all the necessary support during the accession process. Our help and our involvement will be more necessary than ever in supporting this accession effort. At the same time, in my capacity as chief negotiator of the European Parliament regarding the 1.8 billion Euro Growth Plan for the Republic of Moldova, I will make sure that we adopt the European legislation as quickly as possible so that the money reaches where it is needed: the country’s infrastructure, schools, roads, hospitals, and also investments in the modernisation of public administration and the continuation of reforms in the justice system,” said Muresan.
