More than 4,500 voters went to the polls in the diaspora until Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. (Romanian time, EET; UTC+02:00) to vote in the first round of the presidential elections, according to data provided in real time by the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP).
According to the AEP, from the opening of the polls, i.e. from Thursday evening at 10:00 p.m. Romanian time (7:00 p.m. UTC) until Friday morning at 9:00 a.m., 4,585 Romanian citizens went to the polls.
In addition, 4,106 voters voted by post, bringing the total number of votes cast abroad to 8,691.
Most Romanian voters voted in Italy – 944, Germany – 590, Spain – 554.

Voting in the diaspora for the presidential elections will take place over three days, from Friday to Sunday:
* Friday, May 2, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.(local time);
* Saturday, May 3, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (local time);
* Sunday, May 4, between 7:00 a.m. (local time) and 9:00 p.m (Romanian local time EET; UTC+02:00).
In the 965 polling stations in the diaspora organized for this year’s presidential elections, Romanian citizens who are abroad on election day can vote, regardless of whether or not they have their domicile or residence abroad.
