Presidential Election2025/ BEC certifies 12 presidential bids

The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) on Monday registered four more candidates for the May presidential election, with a total of 12 candidates having so far been certified.

BEC on Monday considered the latest bids submitted for the presidential election.

It agreed to register the candidacies submitted by: Anamaria Gavrilă (Young People’s Party – POT), Silviu Predoiu (National Action League Party), Daniel Funeriu (independent), Sebastian Constantin Popescu (New Romania Party).

At the same time, the Central Electoral Bureau rejected the candidacies submitted by: Remus Pricopie (independent), Oana Cretu (United Social Democratic Party), Gelu Dragan (independent), Constantin Titian Filip (independent) and Gicu-Romeo Tita (independent). Also, the BEC rejected for the third time and the fourth time, respectively, the candidacies of Petru Mindru and Maria Marcu.

Previously, the Central Electoral Bureau registered eight candidates: Nicusor Dan (independent), Crin Antonescu (Romania Forward Alliance), Victor Ponta (independent), Elena Lasconi (Save Romania Union – USR), George Simion (Alliance for the Union of Romanians – AUR); Lavinia ?Sandru (Party of Social Liberal Union – PUSL), Cristian Terhes (Romanian National Conservative Party), John-Ion Banu-Muscel (independent).

Saturday was the deadline for the submission to BEC of the presidential candidacies.

Thus, the 12 applications that were admitted by BEC are:

* Nicusor Dan (independent)

* Crin Antonescu (Romania Forward Alliance)

* Victor Ponta (independent)

* Elena Lasconi (USR)

* George Simion (AUR)

* Lavinia Sandru (PUSL)

* Cristian Terhes (Romanian National Conservative Party)

* John-Ion Banu-Muscel (independent)

* Anamaria Gavrilă (POT)

* Silviu Predoiu (National Action League Party)

* Daniel Funeriu (independent)

* Sebastian Constantin Popescu (New Romania Party).

According to the schedule of the election, appeals can be filed with the Constitutional Court by March 18 at the latest regarding the registration or rejection of the registration of candidacies or electoral signs. The Constitutional Court (CCR) has until March 19 to rule on them.

On March 20, the candidacies remain final.
