The chairwoman of Save Romania Union (USR), Elena Lasconi, the party’s candidate for the presidential elections, declared, on Saturday, in Ploiesti, that Romania must „keep close” to the USA and maintain the line of dialogue with the White House.

„No matter who the president of Romania is, we must keep close and have a line of dialogue with the president, with whoever is in the White House. It is true that we have a strategic partnership, but you see that nothing is guaranteed in life. And then, interpersonal relations are important,” said Lasconi in a press conference.

Asked what she would say to US President Donald Trump if she were to write him a new letter today, she said she understood the irony and „will shed some light” on this case, but not now.

„I understand the irony in your question, but I tell you that I consider myself a good Romanian. (…) I have stated several times that I will shed light on this case, but not now, because it is not good for my country,” the USR leader declared.
