George Simion, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) candidate, garnered 3,862,761 votes (40.96%) in the first round of the presidential election, according to data published Monday on the website of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP), after the centralisation of all poll station reports.
In second place is independent candidate Nicusor Dan, with 1,979,767 votes (20.99%), followed by Crin Antonescu („Romania, Forward!” electoral alliance ) with 1,892,930 votes (20.07%), and independent candidate Victor Ponta with 1,230,164 votes (13.04%).
The remaining candidates ranked as follows:
Elena Lasconi (Save Romania Union – USR) – 252,721 votes (2.68%)
Lavinia Sandru ( Social Liberal Humanist Party) – 60,682 votes (0.64%)
Daniel Funeriu (independent candidate) – 49,604 votes (0.53%)
Cristian Terhes (Romanian National Conservative Party) – 36,445 votes (0.39%)
Sebastian Popescu (New Romania Party) – 25,994 votes (0.28%)
John-Ion Banu Muscel (independent candidate) – 22,020 votes (0.23%)
Silviu Predoiu (National Action League Party) – 17,186 votes (0.18%).
