Candidate of the electoral alliance „Romania, Forward!” Crin Antonescu says that the presidential election is more thoroughly prepared than ever, adding that the stakes are high and so is the voter turnout.
„We have a good mobilisation. I think it’s very good. (…) I think it is normal, because it is more than four months, five months, since the election was annulled. In all these five months there has been a debate in the Romanian society, an expectation, there have been tensions, dissatisfactions. This is an election that is more awaited and more prepared than ever. People understand, you can see from the turnout, how important it is to close this electoral cycle today in the most democratic and legitimate way, therefore with a massive turnout, and to elect the president they want. It’s a big stake, a big presence,” Antonescu said on Sunday, after having a meeting National Liberal Party (PNL) leaders at the PNL headquarters.
He said that, according to the discussions, all things are going normally.
„Nothing special, there are no incidents, things are going normally, as I hope they will go by the end of the day,” Antonescu said.
He had previously had a discussion with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) leaders. He will also discuss online with Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) officials.
As of 12:00hrs on Sunday, 3,515,524 voters voted in the first round of the presidential election rerun, making up 19.54% of the number of the voters on the electoral rolls according to data provided in real time by the Standing Electoral Authority (AEP).
