USR (Save Romania Union) president Elena Lasconi, a candidate in the upcoming presidential election, on Sunday stated in Pitesti that she is not withdrawing from the electoral race because Romania needs courageous people who do not betray and who are not blackmailable and intimidating in order to modernise.

Asked if she would withdraw in the last minutes of the electoral campaign in favour of Nicusor Dan, the USR president explained that polls show that her withdrawal would not bring more votes to the independent candidate.

„Nicusor Dan is decreasing, I am increasing. If I were to withdraw tomorrow, according to the latest measurements, although they are no longer valid, because Georgescu was also in those measurements, if I were to withdraw, the distance between him and the other candidates would not decrease, but increase. Because I was voted by people who would never vote for him and my votes will go to the others,” stated Elena Lasconi, according to a USR press release.
