President-elect Nicusor Dan said on Monday that it would be „ideal” for PSD, PNL, USR, UDMR and the parliamentary group of national minorities to form a stable Government.
He said on B1 TV that he met with interim president Ilie Bolojan in the afternoon, with whom he discussed about the budget deficit, a subject of common „concern”.
„I met with Mr. Bolojan. I’m coming from him now. I saw Dominic Fritz last night, he came to the campaign headquarters. I haven’t called Mr. Kelemen Hunor yet, but I’ll call him tonight, because there was a very impressive mobilization of ethnic Hungarians and UDMR contributed a lot to this. We are waiting to see what happens in the PSD, because we all know that there are some tensions there. (…) The ideal is for all four, plus the minorities, to form a Government, so that we have a stable Government,” said the president-elect.
Nicusor Dan added that Ilie Bolojan represents his option for the position of prime minister, but he does not promise that this will be achieved, because there are „many entities, each with their aspirations, with their proposals” for this position.
„It’s an ongoing discussion. Each of the people has some expectations, some conditions and all of this needs to be harmonized,” he explained.
The president-elect estimated that a difficult period will follow for „at least a few months” from an economic point of view, because Romania „has been throwing money away” for at least three years, and now „this situation needs to be corrected.”
Nicusor Dan mentioned that in about a week he will provide more information on how this economic situation can be overcome.
The issues that need to be addressed as a priority are the budget deficit, the „complicated” geo-political context and the formation of the Government, he reiterated.
„In the short term, we have the deficit – a very serious problem. We are in a complicated geopolitical context, with a war on the border, with a European effort… Romania must harmonize with European states on all security issues, including the rearming program. The third thing – the formation of the Government. And the first and third things are interconnected. I would not want to be a president who says: ‘Here is a prime minister and from here you can manage!’ Cutting the money and how we solve this problem I want to be my responsibility as well”, the president-elect emphasized.
Nicusor Dan promised that, as president, he would support the „reform” of the Romanian state, so that it serves the needs of citizens, not „various interest groups”.
