Independent presidential candidate Victor Ponta said that, starting Tuesday, he will campaign for one of the two candidates who reached the second round of voting, if his team so wishes.
„I’m very sorry, it’s very clear, the PSD (Social Democratic Party) shouldn’t have helped me, but they also shouldn’t have fought me either – and nobody else but me -, and I would have made it to the second round. It’s painful that they did this, both for them and for me. I’m sorry for the voters who are not satisfied, but now this is the second round: George Simion – Nicusor Dan. And I’m going to consult with my team, for they want to continue to work on the campaign. We will hold consultations, but not tonight, not tomorrow. Tomorrow we’ll rest. And from Tuesday, we’ll probably be on the campaign again (…) For one of the two,” Ponta said, on the night between Sunday and Monday, at his campaign headquarters.
He added that he will not negotiate with the candidates who entered the second round to offer them his support, because he does not want anything in particular.
„I have nothing to negotiate. I do not want anything in particular. I wanted people to have someone to vote for. Not to say that they had no one to vote for. 1,200,000 people. Of course, it would have been better if their number was even higher. But there were very, very many,” he stated.
Victor Ponta mentioned that he will not „disappear into the fog,” although he is sad because he did not obtain the result he wanted.
„Of course I am sad, because I would have liked to obtain a better result. It is a day for change. And as I told you, a change is needed and a change will come. And I am sorry if I cannot be the one to lead this change, but I would like to participate in the change,” concluded Ponta.
