The minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, announced that on Thursday the market study for the construction of the first National Proton Therapy Center in South-East Europe was started at the Bucharest Oncological Institute.
Proton therapy involves the use of protons to deliver a dose of radiation that kills tumor cells.
„Proton therapy will be done, for the first time, in Romania! A decisive step in the right direction, after the 7 new radiotherapy centers unlocked and financed by the Ministry of Health. Today we started the market study for the construction, at the Bucharest Oncological Institute, of the first National Center for Proton Therapy in South-Eastern Europe,” the minister wrote on Facebook.
He stated that it will be the largest investment in medical equipment for cancer patients the Ministry of Health has carried out.
