National leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu, the incumbent prime minister, said on Thursday, regarding the National Liberal Party’s decision to break the political dialogue with the Social Democrats and stay in power, that he does not judge anyone, respects decisions, but the government must function during electioneering as well.
„Let’s understand something: we are in an electoral period. I don’t judge anyone, I just tell what I see, I respect decisions. I am interested in one fundamental thing: the Romanian government must operate during electioneering as well,” Ciolacu said, when asked if he had spoken with PNL national leader Nicolae Ciuca about breaking up the PNL-PSD leading coalition.
The National Political Bureau of PNL approved on Thursday a decision to halt political dialogue with PSD but and to keep the Liberals in the government.
„We have analysed all that has lately happened , including the presentation of the decision and its approval by the Political Bureau regarding the interruption of our political dialogue with PSD, at the same time as taking the decision to keep in place our ministers and senior officials to secure governing thinking that we will continue to do everything in our power to be able to protect Romanians from any abuse and to fulfil our objectives as they were pledged in the governing programme,” Ciuca said at the end of the Liberal leadership meeting in Bucharest.
