PSD’s Grindeanu: PSD will come up with an economic recovery package

Published on

The Social Democratic Party (PSD) on Thursday will come up with a package of economic recovery measures, as it considers that such measures are needed, beyond all the public discourse of the last two or three months related to adjustments, spending cuts, layoffs, according to the interim national chairman of PSD, Sorin Grindeanu.

„Tomorrow [Thursday] we will come up with our proposals on the package that we have called economic recovery. We consider the following thing: beyond all the public discourse that we have known in the last two or three months, the one related to adjustments, spending cuts, layoffs and all the other things, we must come up with an economic recovery package. And we will do that; a few weeks ago we announced working on these proposals, tomorrow I will make a presentation in general. My colleagues, because we are talking about several areas, we are talking about economy, energy, healthcare, transport, labour, agriculture (…) Beyond the extensive presentation that I will make tomorrow, next week, almost daily, my colleagues will detail each area,” Grindeanu told Romania TV private broadcaster on Wednesday evening.

He was asked if the package suggested by PSD will pass by pledging responsibility for it or following debates in Parliament.

„I believe that in this coalition, at this moment, we are talking to people of good faith, we cannot redress the economy, we cannot avoid entering an economic recession, if we, in this period, fail to come up with measures of this type. (…) Obviously, I want to be improvements to what we put forth. It is a proposal that comes from PSD, there is room to come up with other proposals. Why am I hesitant to tell you about the pledge, because it is a lever, it is this instrument, the one related to the government passing legislation by pledging responsibility, which should be used exceptionally. Normally, this pledging should not become a rule. (…) That’s why it’s Parliament, you can debate these things in an emergency procedure, there are things that can pass quickly, but respecting the parliamentary rules. (…) I would prefer, and I think that is correct, given that we are talking, however, about a state that respects the fundamental issues of democracy,” the PSD leader also said.
