The police found in the home of mercenary Horatiu Potra and his relatives more than 40 gun chargers (from lethal weapons of different caliber), 51 grenades (military, offensive/defensive), 44 pieces of caliber strikes, 21 lethal pistols (mostly 9x19mm caliber), 7 lethal pistols/light machine guns (7.62mm and 7.65mm caliber), over 20 boxes/packs/bags/bags of lethal ammunition, 6 gun parts, 4 explosive materials, two grenade launchers, one detonating fuse and one sniping tool.
According to a police statement, during the searches carried out on Wednesday, more than 25 kilograms of gold (bars), more than 3.3 million USD, more than 700,000 RON, 43,000 EUR, 13,000 AED and 21,000 RSD were found and seized.
On Wednesday morning, investigators carried out 47 searches in the counties of Sibiu, Mures, Timis, Ilfov and Cluj, in a case related to the financing of Calin Georgescu’s electoral campaign, the establishment of a fascist, racist or xenophobic organization, as well as the promotion of the cult of persons guilty of committing crimes of genocide.
Weapons and ammunition hidden in a secret room were found in a building inhabited by mercenary Horaţiu Potra and his son.
Piles of money and gold bars were also found in a safe hidden under the floor of the house.
In a phone call with a TV station, Potra admitted that the money found at his home was earned abroad and no one is forcing him to keep it at the bank.
„In 1994, my ID expired and I only got a Romanian ID in 2019. Until then, I had no residence in Romania. I earned money, worked for the king of Qatar, worked for presidents in Africa and so on. I brought all the money to Romania. And nobody forces me to keep my money in the bank. All the money I’ve earned, I have papers on it. In the last few years, from 2011 to 2018, I had a contract with the king’s cousin in Qatar, where I was a security consultant for his family. He paid me 45,000 USD a month,” Potra said.
In connection with the weapons found in his home, Horatiu Potra said that he assumes responsibility for non-compliance with the arms and ammunition regime.
„Regarding weapons, I do not want to declare anything. I will take responsibility for the non-compliance with the regime of arms and ammunition. But I want to say one more thing. Rather than die in legality, it is better to live in illegality,” said Horatiu Potra.
