Chairman of the Romanian Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (FRCF) Gabriel Toncean said on Monday that the Romanian team has won, for the second consecutive time, the title of European champion, with a total of 641 points, at the 2023 European Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, in Santa Susanna, write Agerpres.
„For the second time in a row, Romania is in first place in the ranking of nations! With a total of 641 points, the Romanian athletes will win the title in 2023 as well. The most played national anthem at the 2023 European championships was that of Romania. Among the 1,200 athletes of the 44 participating nations ours were the best!
It was a fierce and extraordinarily difficult competition, which took place in a hall bursting at the seams. Nevertheless, we successfully defended our title. Congratulations to all the participating countries! And to you, to those at home, we thank you for your support and for the thousands of encouraging comments! The title of European champions is yours too,” Toncean wrote in a social media post.
According to the final results published by the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB), during the four days of the competition, 68 Romanian bodybuilders advanced to finals, winning 50 medals, including 22 gold, 14 silver and 13 bronze. Team Romania also scored 12 4th places, 6 5th places and 6 6th places.
Toncean said that on the first day of the 2023 European Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships, the Romanian national team achieved the following results: 27 Romanian athletes qualified for the finals, winning 19 medals: 9 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze. At the same time, 4 4thplaces, 2 5th places and 2 6th places were added to the tally.
On the second day of the competition, 14 Romanian athletes progressed to event finals, wining 14 medals: 6 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze and, at the same time, 4 4th places, 1 5th place and 1 6th place.
On the third day of the competition, 11 Romanian athletes qualified for the finals, capturing 5 medals: 2 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze. At the same time, 4 4th places, 1 5th place and 1 6th place were won.
On the fourth day of the competition, 16 Romanian athletes qualified for finals, winning 12 medals: 6 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze. At the same time, 2 5th places and 2 6th places were added to the tally.
Team Romania also got the following results: in Juniors and Masters – 1st place out of 32 participating countries; in Fitness – 2nd place out of 31 participating countries; in Bodybuilding – 3rd place out of 34 participating countries.
Toncean is also the executive director of the World Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness and vice-president of the European Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (EBFF).
