Romania reports 18 cases of West Nile virus infection since June 2025

The National Institute of Public Health on Tuesday said that between the beginning of the reporting period, June 2 and September 4, a number of 18 cases of West Nile virus infection (17 confirmed cases and one probable case) were reported in Romania.

The cases were recorded in Bucharest (6), the counties of Braila (1), Dolj (1), Galati (3), Ilfov (1), Prahova (1), Salaj (1), Timis (2), Teleorman (1) and Vrancea (1).

The infections involved: eight individuals aged 70-79, four aged 60-69, four aged 50-59, one person aged over 80, one person aged 10-19.

In this context, the INSP specialists have issued several recommendations for the public:

* Avoid exposure to mosquitoes by wearing long-sleeved clothing and long trousers;

* Use chemical mosquito repellants;

* Prevent mosquitoes from entering homes by installing protective window screens;

* Ensure stagnant water pools around the household are drained;

* Remove containers with standing water and household waste from the property.
