The Defense Ministry’s Secretary of State for Defense policy, Planning and International relations Simona Cojocaru signed on Thursday in Brussels the Letter of Intent on Romania’s joining the initiative regarding the identification of multinational solutions for the use by NATO aircraft of the cross-border airspace (CBA), write Agerpres.

„The implementation of the CBA initiative will ensure the consistence of NATO measures in the Black Sea region and along the entire eastern flank in order to deter all hostile aerial actions against allied security,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement. The Secretary of State participated in the North Atlantic Council session dedicated to the defense and deterrence posture which took place on the sidelines of the Brussels meeting of NATO Defense ministers. On this occasion, Simona Cojocaru briefed the allies on behalf of the Romanian Defense Ministry on the Russian Federation’s drone attacks last night on the Ukrainian port of Izmail, and the discovery on Romanian soil, close to the border, of a crater from a drone that may have exploded on impact.

The Romanian official strongly condemned the dangerous and irresponsible attacks of Russia, stating that Romania will keep all allies informed about the security situation on the Danube. During the discussions, allied representatives unanimously expressed their solidarity with Romania.

In connection with the current NAC agenda, and based on the mandate received, the Secretary of State highlighted the need for the full implementation of the decisions adopted at the NATO Summit in Vilnius and thanked for the support offered by the allies for strengthening Black Sea security, and especially in Romania, including through the rapid deployment to Romania of forces and capabilities.

Secretary of State Cojocaru also informed about the recent developments in rendering the multinational battlegroup operational, an important project for Romania and NATO, pointing out that in its capacity as host nation, Romania will continue to provide substantial support.
