Romania won 11 medals at the European Table Tennis Championships for juniors U15 and U19 in Malmo (Sweden), which ended on Sunday, including 4 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze.
In the U19 men’s singles, Darius Movileanu won the gold after defeating the Frenchman Flavien Coton 4-2 in the final.
Andrei Istrate lost the duel with Coton, score 1-4, remaining with the bronze medal.
In the U19 women’s singles, Bianca Mei-Rosu defeated the Ukrainian Veronika Matiunina 4-0 in the last act, after having clearly won against the Polish Zuzanna Wielgos, 4-0, in the semifinals.
In the U15 men’s singles final, Robert Istrate lost to the Polish Patryk Zyworonek 2-4 and won the silver.
In men’s doubles, Under-19, the pair Andrei Istrate/Iulian Chirita won the gold after 3-0 in the final with the French Flavien Coton/Nathan Lam.
In the women’s doubles, Bianca Mei-Rosu and the German Mia Griesel remained with the bronze medals after losing the semi-final with the pair Veronika Matiunina (Ukraine)/Nicole Arlia (Italy), score 2-3.
Andreea Baiasu and the Portuguese Julia Leal won the bronze medals in women’s doubles, Under-15, after losing the semifinal with the Spanish pair Renata Shypsha/Irina Gimeno Font, score 0-3.
Another bronze medal was obtained in the U15 mixed doubles by Robert Istrate and Andreea Baiaşu, who lost the semi-final with the Poles Aleks Pakula/Katarzyna Rajkowska, score 0-3.
The balance of the Romanian team was completed by the gold medal won by the U19 men’s team (Dragos Bujor, Iulian Chirita, Andrei Istrate, Darius Movileanu) and the silver medals won by the U19 women’s team (Bianca Mei-Rosu, Alesia Sferlea, Andrea Teglas, Evelyn Ungvari) and the U15 men’s team (Matei Eparu, Robert Istrate, Mihai Nagy).
According to the Romanian Table Tennis Federation, Romania won the most medals, 17, at the last edition, of which 6 were gold.
