„As of 14:15, the national module specialised in extinguishing wildfires was alerted, through the French liaison officer, to extinguish a forest fire that broke out near Corte,” the source said. The Romanian firefighters intervened in the firefighting mission alongside the military and civilian firefighting crews of the host country.

„At the same time, to carry out reconnaissance from the air and to effectively cover the entire affected area, 2 helicopters with bambi bucket system and 2 Canadair-type firefighting planes were assigned to the intervention. According to the forecast for today, August 21, the risk of wildfires is high. The missions carried out by our colleagues are under the direct coordination of the French liaison officer and will consist of limiting the spread of the fire to inhabited areas, maintaining a protective line between the fire front and the affected area,” the press release reads.

The IGSU reiterates that on August 15, Romania sent a specialised wildfire-fighting module to Corsica, consisting of 20 military, as part of the pre-positioning programme.
