Romanian tennis player Irina Begu wins Montreux WTA 125 tournament

Romanian tennis player Irina Begu won the WTA 125 tournament in Montreux (Switzerland), endowed with total prize money worth 115,000 dollars, after defeating Croatian Petra Marcinko, 1-6, 6-3, 6-0, in the final on Sunday.

Irina Begu (34, WTA;s 130th) won after one hour and 33 minutes of play.

The Romanian lost the first set of her duel with Marcinko (18, WTA’s 292nd), but managed to make a come back and win.

Irina Begu won a check of 15,000 dollars and 125 WTA points, while Marcinko was awarded 8,000 dollars and 81 WTA points.

For Begu this is the third WTA 125 title of her career, after Indian Wells (2020) and Bucharest (2022). Begu has won five WTA singles titles and played in four finals, and has also won nine WTA doubles titles, in addition to seven other finals.

Irina Begu will play next week at the WTA 125 tournament in Bucharest, the Tiriac Foundation Trophy.
