Romania’s e-commerce sector is estimated at roughly EUR 7 billion as of the end of 2023, about 10 percent higher than that the figure recorded in 2022 (EUR 6.3 billion), show estimates by GPeC, ARMO and the main actors in the field.
„The value of EUR 7 billion refers to all transactions generated in Romania, both to local merchants and to online stores outside country borders, and strictly represents the e-tailing segment, i.e. the physical (tangible) products that were purchased via the Internet. This amount does not include services, utility bill payments, digital content or plane tickets, vacations and trips, hotel reservations, tickets to shows or various events etc. If we were to add these too, the total value would exceed EUR 10 billion,” informs the Romanian Online Stores Association (ARMO).
According to estimates by relevant actors, online trade will continue to grow in 2024 by approximately 10 percent compared to the previous year.
