The production of poultry meat increased in July 2024, compared to the same period last year, but also compared to the previous month, while mutton and goat production increased only compared to June 2024, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (INS) published on Tuesday.
As for pork production, it was higher compared to the similar period last year, but it was down compared to June. In contrast, beef and veal production was down in July 2024 compared to both periods analysed.
Thus, Romania’s production of poultry meat increased in July 2024 by more than 9.2% compared to the same period last year, and by almost 6% compared to the previous month, totaling 48,223 tonnes.
The statistics show that in July 2024, 29.743 million poultry were slaughtered, up from July 2023 (26.772 million head) and June 2024 (27.261 million head).
Mutton and goat meat production decreased 2.5% year-on-year, from 4,602 tonnes in July 2023 to 4,483 tonnes carcass in July 2024, and increased 10.3% compared to June this year.
A number of 322,000 sheep and goats were slaughtered in July 2024, down from 327,000 head in the same month last year. In June this year, the number of sheep and goats slaughtered totaled 311,000 head.
As for beef production, it totaled 6,626 tonnes in July this year, down almost 2% compared to July 2023, when a production of 6,759 tonnes of carcass was recorded. Compared to June 2024, when 6,867 tonnes of beef carcasses were recorded, the decrease was 3.5%.
During the period under review, the number of cattle slaughtered reached 40,000 head, compared to 42,000 head in July 2023 and 41,000 in June 2024.
According to INS data, pork production increased about 8.4%, from 23,419 tonnes of carcass in July 2023 to 25,392 tonnes in July 2024, but decreased almost 4% compared to June this year, when the production of 26,390 tonnes of carcass pork was recorded.
In July 2024, 294,000 pigs were slaughtered, up from the same period in 2023 (270,000 head), but down from the previous month – June 2024 – 297,000 head.
