The Royal Domain from Savarsin, western Arad county reopens to visitors at the end of April, with a spring fair and a culinary festival, the representatives of the Royal House announce on the social media pages and on the website of the Savarsin Royal Castle.
„At the end of this month, the Royal Village and the Savarsin Domain Park will reopen their doors to the public. On the same days, the Spring Fair will take place in the northeastern part of the park, just like last year. At this moment, the Royal Collection Foundation’s teams and the partners of the organization are working intensively on the preparation of the park and the buildings visited by the public,” the www.savarsinregal.ro website reported.
Also, on the Facebook account of the Royal Castle, it is announced that visitors are expected at the domain on April 27 and 28 at the „Soul of Romania” festival, where they can taste selected dishes from small local producers. The children will have at their disposal the workshops of traditional craftspersons, and the adults will be able to enjoy folk dance performances and concerts by folk artists.
In recent years, the Savarsin Royal Domain was opened between May and October on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, between 9:00 and 18:00, and the park was visited in the presence of a guide. The organized groups could also visit the domain over the rest of the months of the year, as well as on other days of the week, based on appointments.
The Tea House, a 19th century building located at the entrance to the Savarsin Royal Domain, is the most recent attraction of the compound, opened a year ago, after it was restored by the Royal Family. The building is the largest of the ensemble called the Royal Village, having 300 square meters, and here visitors can serve coffee, tea, soft drinks, snacks and cakes. The building is also a cultural and educational space, hosting exhibitions, open lessons, meetings and public events.
The Royal Village consists of the Automobile Museum, located in the restored building of the royal garage, King Mihai’s Auto Workshop, located in the same building where the Laundry and Ironing Shop was in the 1940s, the Guest House, the Tea House, the Intendant’s House (remains the same as the one in the 1940s), the Technical House and the Souvenir Shop.
The Savarsin Royal Domain also has a park with a hidden garden, a pavilion, a lake with an island, a tennis court from 1945, a rose garden and the wisteria vault.
The most important building of the domain is the castle built in the period 1650-1680. The castle became the property of King Mihai in 1943, by purchase, but was confiscated by the communist regime in 1948, returning to the property of the Royal House in 2001. The restoration works of the castle, started in 2007, were completed in 2015, the investments being made by the Royal Family.
