The ‘Hope and Homes for Children’ Foundation is giving out 10 scholarships of 2,000 euros each to vulnerable children who excel in art, sports or learning; the scholarship recipients will be announced on Monday evening, the foundation said in a release, according to Agerpres.

„The foundation sets itself as a goal supporting every year from now on excellence where deprivation and vulnerability risk robbing truly extraordinary children of the right to shine,” the release states.

According to the latest data published by the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption, 2,766 children live in foster care centers run by state institutions – 1,738 in the 62 existing classic foster care facilities, and 1,028 in 42 modulated foster care centers. Another 573 children live in both classic and modulated foster centers run by certified private bodies.

25 years ago, ‘Hope and Homes for Children’ has taken up the mission of closing down orphanages and preventing the separation of children from their families. Until now, the foundation has put the lock on 65 orphanages, it has built 121 family homes and taken out of orphanages more than 7,000 children. The foundation has also offered support to over 40,000 children so as to keep on living with their families, away from the „trauma of institutionalization”, the release notes.
