Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increases to 5.4% in July

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 5.4% in July 2024, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous month, according to data the National Institute of Statistics (NIS), published on Friday.

The unemployment rate for men was 0.6 percentage points higher than for women.

According to the quoted source, the number of unemployed people (aged 15-74 years) estimated for July 2024 was 451,200 people, up from the previous month (430,800 people), but down from the same period of the previous year (458,300 people).

By gender, the unemployment rate for men exceeded that for women by 0.6 percentage points, the respective values being 5.7% for men and 5.1% for women.

According to the INS, the high unemployment rate of 23.2% among young people (aged 15-24) continues to draw attention.

For adults (aged 25-74), the unemployment rate has been estimated at 4.4% for July 2024 (4.2% for women and 4.5% for men). The number of unemployed persons aged 25-74 accounted for 76.1% of the total number of unemployed persons estimated for July 2024.
