The Acting President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, highlighted on Tuesday, during the meeting with the Moldovan ambassador Victor Chirila that Romania supports the objective for the Republic of Moldova to become a member state of the European Union by 2030, acting through initiatives within the EU and bilaterally, by continuing to support the pace of institutional reform.
„The discussions focused on the excellent dynamics of parliamentary relations between Romania and the Republic of Moldova, as well as other opportunities for bilateral cooperation. The Romanian side congratulated the political class in Chisinau for the pro-European victory of the constitutional referendum, the re-election of President Maia Sandu, and the good management of the energy crisis. The high-ranking Romanian dignitary reconfirmed Romania’s full support for the Republic of Moldova’s objective of becoming an EU member state by 2030. In this regard, the interim President of the Senate emphasized that Romania will act on two main lines – through initiatives within the EU and, in parallel, on a bilateral level, by continuing to support the pace of institutional reform,” a Senate’s release said.
According to the cited source, Romania is open to providing technical assistance in the process of justice reform and consolidation of the rule of law, a fact confirmed by the adoption, last year, of the Joint Action Plan in the field of justice between the Ministries of Justice of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
The interim President of the Senate stated that the „upward trajectory in advancing the European agenda of the Republic of Moldova” must be maintained, and the calendar for transposing European legislation must be established in close coordination with Brussels and the partners of the Republic of Moldova.
