Senator Sosoaca announces her presidential election bid

Published on

At a joint plenary session of Parliament on Tuesday, Senator Diana Iovanovici-Sosoaca announced that she will be running in this autumn’s presidential election.

She added that this was her last speech to a plenary sitting of the Romanian Parliament as she won a MEP seat in the June 9 European election.

„I want to wish the ladies in Parliament to stop allowing the Grobians in Parliament to offend them. (…) You should respect the ladies in these seats, who work, unlike you,” she said.

Sosoaca showed up dressed up in military attire, saying that her doing so is „a symbol.”

„Because men in Romania have become the most fearful, the women will wear this military clothing and we will defend our country and you, the fearful men and the Grobians who have made a fool of themselves in this Parliament. And also, from here, in my military attire, with pride and honour that I have served the homeland in the Romanian Parliament, I am leaving for the European Parliament and I want to announce that we will see again because I am announcing my candidacy for the President of Romania. You will not get rid of me and you will learn to respect the women of Romania, your mothers, your wives, your sisters. (…) I will ask you to be much more respectful to the women in the Romanian Parliament,” she added.

The interim speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfred Simonis, wished Sosoaca „a quieter stay in the European Parliament”.
