Several limestone formations formed on the roots of some trees at the Clocota Waterfall, in Geoagiu Bai Resort, western Hunedoara County, collapsed due to the weight and reconfigured the waterfall, the natural phenomenon occurring without any tourist being hurt, write Agerpres.
„The waterfall is not affected. A small section formed as a result of limestone deposits on the roots of some trees at the top of the waterfall has collapsed, developing as a kind of stalactite. It is a natural phenomenon. There will be no intervention and we believe that, in a short time, they will be restored,” Claudiu Nicolae Simonati, tourism advisor at the National Center of Tourism Information and Promotion Geoagiu Bai, told AGERPRES on Wednesday.
Following the collapse of the limestone formations, the waterfall is now two tiered, the image being much more spectacular than before, said the tourism advisor.
He mentioned that for their safety, tourists should follow more rules and not expose themselves to various risks. One of the former refers to the fact that some tourists, in search of spectacular photos, positioned themselves behind the water curtain of the waterfall, something that is forbidden.
The Clocota Waterfall was formed on the course of the stream of the same name in Geoagiu Bai, which collects the surplus of mesothermal water from the resort. The waterfall is about 38 to 43 meters high and 22 meters wide, being one of the two waterfalls with thermal water in Romania.
