Romania’s H1 wholesale turnover (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) was 1.4 percent down year-over-year in unadjusted terms, and 0.3 percent lower when expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted terms, the National Institute of Statistics (INS) announced on Friday.

The recorded decline in the unadjusted wholesale turnover was mainly the result of the drop in wholesale volumes of unprocessed agriculture products and livestock (-11.9 percent), wholesale intermediation (-11.6 percent), consumer goods other than food (-8 percent), and wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (-2.2 percent).

Conversely, growth was recorded in non-specialized wholesale trade (+15.2 percent), the specialized wholesale of other products (+7.6 percent), wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+5.5 percent), and wholesale of computer and telecommunications equipment (+3.5 percent).

Expressed as workday and seasonally adjusted terms, the wholesale turnover in the reporting period (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) dipped 0.3 percent from the year-ago period.

Compared with the previous month, June’s wholesale turnover (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) was 2.5 percent up in unadjusted terms, and 2.8 higher when adjusted for workdays and seasonality.

Growth, unadjusted, was the result of the advance in wholesales of unprocessed agriculture products and livestock (+32.6 percent), wholesale of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+10.4 percent), wholesale of computer and telecommunications equipment (+2.8 percent), wholesale of consumer goods other than food (+2.7 percent), and wholesale of food, beverages and tobacco (+0.7 percent). The activities to see a downward trend were wholesale intermediation (-8.4 percent), specialized wholesale of other products (-4.2 percent), and non-specialized wholesale (-2.2 percent).

Year-over-year, the wholesale turnover (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) this June was 4.3 percent down in unadjusted terms as a result of the decrease in wholesales of unprocessed agriculture products and livestock (-22 percent), wholesale of consumer goods, other than food (-8.3 percent), wholesale intermediation (-7.8 percent), specialized wholesale of other products (-3.6 percent), and wholesale of food products, beverages and tobacco (-2.0 percent).

On the other hand, there was growth in wholesales of computer and telecommunications equipment (+11.4 percent), non-specialized wholesale trade (+10.8 percent), and wholesales of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+2.8 percent).

Adjusted for workdays and seasonality, the wholesale turnover this June was 2.1 percent down year-over-year.
