The Syrian citizen who tried to set himself on fire, in front of the Israeli Embassy, was placed in preventive custody for 30 days, the Press Office of the Bucharest Police informed on Tuesday.
A 34-year-old Syrian citizen tried to set himself on fire with an incendiary bottle, on Monday, in front of the Israeli Embassy, because he allegedly had not been received in a hearing.
The anti-terrorist agents immediately intervened at the scene, immobilizing the man, who was then taken to the 14th Police Department.
„From the data I have, it would not have been an anti-Semitic act, there would have been some dissatisfaction with regard to the granting of residence, but all these aspects will be established after the continuation of the checks that are being carried out now. The record will certainly be checked his history will be checked,” the spokesman for the Romanian Police, Georgian Dragan told Antena 3 on Monday.
He added that the Syrian would not have acted in the context of Israel’s intervention in Gaza, but it would be about a personal dissatisfaction of the man.
The Romanian Intelligence Service’s employees, who ensured the security of the institution, proceeded to extinguish the fire, without damage being recorded.
