Tennis: Ana Bogdan, through to round of 16 at Transylvania Open

Romanian tennis player Ana Bogdan qualified on Tuesday for the round of 16 of the Transylvania Open (WTA 250) tournament, with total prize money of USD 259,303 and hosted by BT Arena in Cluj-Napoca, after defeating Bulgarian Viktoria Tomova 6-4, 6-1, write Agerpres.

Ana Bogdan (30 years old, WTA’s 73rd), the fifth seeded, won after one hour and 25 minutes. Tomova (28, WTA’s 98th) started better and led 2-0, but Ana Bogdan balanced the match and won the first set 6-4. In the second act, the Romanian overpasses to 4-0, winning 6-1.

The two players were tied in direct matches, 1-1, after Tomova won in 2018, in Istanbul, in the qualifiers, 6-1, 6-2, and Ana won in 2015, in Sofia, in the round of 16, 6-3, 6-2. Ana Bogdan has secured a cheque for USD 4,220 and 30 WTA points and will face Czech Nikola Bartunkova (17) in the round of 16.
