Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu declared on Wednesday in Cluj-Napoca that the time of „partisan approaches that have fragmented our society for years” is over and instead, central and local authorities as well as political forces should look to cooperate.
„Today we succeed not only in improving the operating standards, but also a horizontal enhancement of the development possibilities for this area. In short, an attractive incentive for investors and tourists from everywhere to visit this special part of Romania. This cooperation based on a permanent dialogue between the local and central authorities actually shows the maturity of those currently in local and central government positions. If we want real development and top economic performance, we must understand once and for all that the main obligation of those who lead is to permanently have the interests of the Romanians in mind. The time of partisan approaches that have fragmented our society for years and reduced the chances of all of Romania’s areas to develop consistently is over,” Grindeanu said at the inauguration of the extension of the departures terminal of the Avram Iancu Airport in Cluj-Napoca, a RON 366 million project.
The northward expansion of the passenger departure terminal was implemented with EU, state budget and own funding, under the 2014-2020 Large Infrastructure Operational Program, and consisted of the expansion of the departures terminal by approximately 7,200 square meters, the creation of Schengen and Non-Schengen passenger flows, as well as of three new security flows equipped with state-of-the-art security monitoring equipment, and the expansion of the airport apron by approximately 9,000 square meters. Following the project’s completion, the processing capacity of the Cluj International Airport terminals will increase to 4.5 million passengers/year, said the airport’s general manager David Ciceo.
Attending the event were Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Senate President Nicolae-Ionel Ciuca, Senator Vasile Dincu, Chamber of Deputies Deputy Speaker Lucian Bode, MEP Daniel Buda, and Cluj-Napoca mayor Emil Boc.
