The Brasov-Simeria railway line, part of the Rhine-Danube European Corridor, is currently undergoing rehabilitation, and upon completion, trains will be able to travel at a maximum speed of 160 km/h on this section, according to Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Ciprian Serban.
„Today, alongside Ion Simu, director general of CFR SA, I inspected the progress of the Brasov-Simeria railway line rehabilitation, part of the Rhine-Danube European Corridor. Once finished, this section will allow speeds of up to 160 km/h, improving national and European connectivity. A key milestone is the breakthrough of the final part of the double-track railway tunnel on the new Mureni route (near Mureni village, Mures county). The tunnel measures 740 metres and is constructed by the RailWorks association (Alstom, Aktor, Arcada and Euro Construct), with a total value of 294 million lei (without VAT),” Ciprian Serban wrote on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
The Minister of Transport also reviewed the progress of works at the Ormenis (7.1 km) and Homorod (5.2 km) tunnels, where four tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are currently excavating. The projects use advanced drilling and reinforcement technologies to ensure long-term durability and resistance to extreme conditions, Serban underscored.
„Significant steps are taken to modernize the Romanian railway network, promoting green mobility accessible to all. These projects optimise transport and boost local and regional economic development,” Transport Minister Serban added on his Facebook page. AGERPRES
