The Minister of Transport, Sorin Grindeanu, announced on Friday that repair work will continue this summer on Transfagarasan, but without stopping road traffic.

„This is a matter that absolutely needs to be done this summer, namely works on the Transfagarasan, absolutely necessary, the summer ones. (…) I think there is a feasibility study currently being carried out on the Transfagarasan,” minister Sorin Grindeanu declared in a press conference.

Sorin Grindeanu specified that the repairs to be carried out will not mean stopping traffic on Transfagarasan.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu, checked on Friday the status of the works on the Sibiu – Pitesti highway infrastructure objective.

Road traffic on Transfagarasan was reopened starting on June 7, including in the alpine area, between Balea Cascada (Sibiu County) and Piscul Negru (Arges County). Road traffic is only allowed during the day, between 07:00 and 21:00, and „in case of unfavorable weather conditions, the road will be temporarily closed until the weather permits the reopening of the road under safe conditions”, DRDP Brasov said.

Transfagarasan is currently one of the routes to reach Sibiu, under the conditions in which road traffic on DN7 Valea Oltului will be closed from Monday.

Tourists can travel on Transfagarasan between Balea Cascada and Balea Lac and by cable car, but only during the day and only when the weather conditions are favorable for cable transport.
