TransportMin Grindeanu: We are interested in getting Tarom out of this unfortunate zone, economically speaking

Published on

Transport Minister Sorin Grindeanu on Wednesday said that the Government is currently interested in getting Tarom national airline out of the „unfortunate zone” in which it finds itself economically and is looking for investors to do so.

Grindeanu was asked at a press conference at the end of his visit to Qatar with Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu if he had discussed Tarom in his meetings.

„(…) We are interested at the moment in getting Tarom out of this not very happy, or even unfortunate zone, economically speaking, which in turn has effects on the quality of services that we want to improve in the coming period. The state cannot come with a state aid, as you well know, because the other players in the market would complain immediately, according to competition laws, and then you have to find ways to get out of this vicious circle,” said Grindeanu.

He added that one of these ways is to find investors to invest in new aircraft and better services.

„And we are looking for this, I have no reason to hide it and I hope to find it. Probably by the end of April we will get the agreement for the aid from the European Commission that has been talked about for almost three years. But it’s a step. Tarom needs more in order to be on an upward trend,” Grindeanu said.
