Two Spartan aircraft were sent, on Tuesday afternoon, by the Ministry of National Defence, to extinguish the forest fire that broke out in the rural town of Racovita, informed the representatives of the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) Valcea.
According to the same source, the mission was requested by the ISU Valcea management because the fire spread over a very large area and the intervention of the ground forces is made difficult by the rough terrain.
„The personnel participating in the Racovita fire are withdrawing from the intervention area. Two aircraft were assigned to the fire for intervention. They took off from Bucharest and are estimated to arrive very soon. I remind you that the area is extremely difficult to access and the affected area is at least 60 hectares,” stated the spokesperson of ISU Valcea, Sorin Albinaru.
At the fire that broke out on Monday afternoon in a broadleaf and coniferous forest in the town of Racovita, more than 100 firefighters, foresters and volunteers intervened on land, plus a helicopter equipped with the Bambi Bucket system, which has so far carried out 35 water releases over focus.
