Two Ukrainian nationals have been rescued by mountain rescuers and border guards from the Maramures Mountains, Director of the County Public Mountain Rescue Service Dan Benga reported on Tuesday evening.

„The two Ukrainian nationals, aged 21 and 23, were rescued from near Mezipotoki Peak, Maramures Mountains. (…) After long efforts, the two managed to be located by their colleagues from STS Maramures and STS Bistrita. Being frightened, they refused to co-operate with the authorities, but later they managed to obtain their coordinates. (…) The Ukrainians were found and after their health was assessed they are ready for extraction, and we will bring them down from the mountain. (…) The two Ukrainians were handed over to the Poienile de sub Munte Border Police,” said Benga.

The extraction operation was carried out in collaboration with a team of the Poienile de sub Munte Border Police with the Sighetu Marmatiei Police Inspectorate.
