UDMR submits to BEC list of candidates for European Parliament

The Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) submitted, on Wednesday, to the Central Electoral Bureau (BEC), the lists of signatures for the June 9 European Parliament elections, the list of candidates being opened by Winkler Gyula, Vincze Lorant and Szilagyi Dora.

„We have submitted the list of candidates and the list of supporters for the European Parliament elections – almost 300,000 signatures – and the complete list (of candidates – ed.n). (…) Since 1990 we have argued that Romania’s place is in the European Union and after 2007 this dream, this wish has become reality. Of course, just as Romania has changed, so has our society, the European Union has changed and is constantly changing as well,” declared the chairman of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor.

„2024 is a crucial year both for Romania and for the Hungarian community in Romania, but it is also a crucial year for the future of the European Union, which is sure to change. And probably, after the 2024 elections, those things that didn’t go right will be corrected, because the interests of the citizens of all member states must be taken into account and there must be a primary concern of the Commission to solve society’s problems. The European Union can only remain in global competition if it is united and if the competition and economic competitiveness will increase and not decrease, if jobs remain, if salaries increase, if every citizen of the European Union will feel at home. And for us there is another desideratum, of course, the protection of native ethnic minorities within the European Union,” explained the UDMR leader.
