The presence of the United States Air Force Detachment in Borcea is a clear proof of allied solidarity, minister of Defense Angel Tilvar said on Tuesday, at a meeting with the chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, on the sidelines of the Warsaw Security Forum, according to a press release sent to AGERPRES.
During the meeting, the Romanian minister highlighted the worrying security developments in the Black Sea region and thanked the NATO high official for the support provided and the measures adopted by the Alliance following the Russian Federation’s attacks on Ukrainian ports on the Danube, in the immediate vicinity of the national borders.
„The four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets and 100 soldiers’ presence of the United States Air Force detachment, deployed at the Borcea Air Base, who performed Reinforced Air Police missions, along with other additional elements, is a clear proof of allied solidarity and of quick and effective decisions made according to the security challenges we face. We must continue to take all the necessary measures to make our citizens feel safe. It is our main duty,” minister Angel Tilvar said, according to the source.
Also, the minister of Defense highlighted the need to keep the strategic importance of the Black Sea region on the allied agenda and emphasized the role of the military authorities in adapting NATO to the new security context.
The said military base is located rd 158 km southeast of Bucharest, and is known as 86th Borcea Air Base, the Borcea commune, Calarasi county, close to the Danube’s Borcea anabranch.
