Save Romania Union (USR) leader Elena Lasconi presented a list of eight points for the Union to enter government at the negotiations with political leaders that took place on Wednesday, at the Victoria Palace of Government.
Elena Lasconi specified in a statement to the press that the party representatives announced that they had taken note of these proposals.
„They have not understood anything from the Romanians’ vote. Basically, they are trying to do exactly the same thing and we should have different expectations. This cannot be. I came with eight points today, which are also in the government program, (…) It seemed to me that in all this time we have been discussing the budget it was a dialogue of the deaf, in the sense that you cannot promise people that you will do things for them if you cannot make sure that you have the money for it. The first and most important is the urgent adoption of the 2025 budget in Parliament by Monday. This can be done if there is political will, because the Government has exceeded the legal deadline of October 15. The information note on the budget situation and financing needs for 2025 must be made public immediately, because this Government has practically sealed it. In other words, they do not want to tell us the truth,” Elena Lasconi said.
Other demands of USR concern the dismissal in Parliament of the Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) president and the establishment of an inquiry committee on the conditions of the elections organization and the prevention of „foreign influence”.
„How can we expect that, after three months or after six months, when we have presidential elections, there will not be exactly the same result and those elections will not be canceled again? If there are problems, then something must be done now,” she explained.
USR also demands the immediate dismissal of the leadership of the intelligence services; the organization of a working group on the rebuilding of the national security laws, „for a real and effective civilian control” of these services; the reform and depoliticization of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR); the immediate adoption by the Government of an ordinance on fiscal measures for next year.
The Save Romania Union would also like all parties in the alliance to demand the resignation of President Klaus Iohannis at the end of his legitimate mandate, followed by the election by common agreement of a new Senate president to ensure the interim position.
The eighth proposal is to start the procedures to organize a referendum „No convicts”, an initiative supported by more than one million signatures. This referendum would be organized within 30 days or simultaneously with the first round of presidential elections in 2025.
USR leaders left the negotiations at the Victoria Palace less than half an hour after arriving for the talks. The meeting continues with the participation of representatives of PSD, PNL, UDMR and the Parliamentary Group of National Minorities. Taking part on behalf of PSD are Marcel Ciolacu, Paul Stanescu, Sorin Grindeanu and Alfred Simonis, while PNL is represented by Ilie Bolojan, Adrian Vestea and Ciprian Ciucu. Attending the negotiations on behalf of UDMR are Kelemen Hunor and Cseke Attila, and Varujan Pambuccian is the representative of the national minorities group.
