USR (Save Romania Union) chair Elena Lasconi on Thursday stated that she does not rule out joining a government made by PNL (National Liberal Party), PSD (Social Democratic Party) and UDMR (Democratic Union of Hungarians of Romania) after the presidential election, but not with Marcel Ciolacu as prime minister.
„USR is a serious political party and wants to enter the government. I do not rule out a government with PNL, PSD, UDMR after the presidential election. But not with Mr. Ciolacu, whom Iohannis aberrantly appointed as prime minister for the second time. Mr. Ciolacu is the one who did not want us in the government, he did not want to show the real economic figures. His statement is frivolous, and he knows that his political capital has run out. Romania needs a serious prime minister, not someone who flies with Nordis while putting taxes on the shoulders of people who work honestly,” Elena Lasconi said on Facebook.
She added that USR’s decision not to vote on the motion of censure is not a favour for Marcel Ciolacu.
„They are buying time now because the USR does not want to throw the country into chaos by overthrowing the Government, but it is not a favour, but a gesture of respect towards good-faith citizens,” Elena Lasconi said.
Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Thursday that he believes the USR should enter the government alongside the PSD, PNL, UDMR and minorities and support the coalition’s sole candidate for the presidential election, Crin Antonescu.
„Tomorrow there is a motion of censure just to curse Ciolacu, because it has no chance of passing. It does not even have a single chance of passing. I also saw the announcement of the USR parliamentarians that they will not vote for this motion, for one reason – that we are bringing instability to Romania. They can vote, I invite them to vote, because the motion will not pass anyway, even if they vote too. However, I must state that it is a gesture of normality (…) and I will allow myself in the coming period to bother Mrs. President Lasconi, I believe, as I also believed when forming the Government, that USR must also come to power, alongside PSD, PNL, UDMR and the national minorities,” Ciolacu stated on Romania TV.
