The Save Romania Union (USR) asks PM Marcel Ciolacu to organize public consultations with all parties and civil society for the appointment of the European Commissioner from Romania.
„The prime minister shouldn’t play with the office of European Commissioner, this is an important position for Romania and we need a person who will represent our country with professionalism and honour. It is not normal to find out from various sources PSD’s (Social Democratic Party) proposals, and neither PNL’s (National Liberal Party) denials that they are going to award Iohannis the job for his past ten years of laziness and inactivity,” said USR president Elena Lasconi, in a press release sent to AGERPRES on Saturday.
Also, the USR demands that the PSD – PNL Government makes public the criteria for choosing the proposals for a new commissioner from Romania and also observe the proposal of the head of the European Commission to send two proposals – a man and a woman.
August 30 is the deadline by which each member state of the European Union must propose two candidates for the office of European Commissioner in the future Community Executive.
