The value of Romania’s 2023 agricultural production was 0.6 percent higher compared to the year before, standing at RON 109.89 billion in current prices, shows data released on Thursday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
The crop production increased in 2023 by 2.1 percent to RON 66.26 billion in comparable prices, agricultural services advanced 0.4 percent to RON 2.97 billion, while animal production decreased 2.5 percent to RON 40.65 billion.
There was just little variation in the structure of the agricultural production value compared to the previous year. The share of crop production was 60.3 percent, 5.3 percentage points down from the year before, and the share of animal production was 37 percent, up 5.2 percent from 2022. Agricultural services accounted for 2.7 percent.
As regards the structure of the crop production by main crop groups, growth was recorded in the share of vegetables and melons (+2 percentage points), fruits and grapes (+1.3 percentage points), potatoes (+0.6 percentage points), and fodder plants (+0.2 percentage points); there was a decrease in the share of cereals (-2.2 percentage points), oilseed plants (-1.3 percentage points) and other product groups (-0.6 percentage points) .
The value of the animal production increased for milk products obtained in livestock farms (+2.8 percentage points) and for poultry (+0.9 percentage points), but declined for the sheep and goat production (-2.2 percentage points), cattle (-1.2 percentage points), other product groups (-0.2 percentage points), and pigs (-0.1 percentage points).
INS specifies that the figures on the 2023 agricultural production are semi-provisional, and the final data by macro-regions, development regions and counties will be available in October 2024.
