Working meeting of customs authorities’ heads from Romania, Republic of Moldova

The president of the Romanian Customs Authority (AVR), Ion Cupa, and the managing director of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Talmazan, together with the teams of experts from the two countries, participated, on October 11, 2023, at the Albita Border Customs, at a working meeting, according to a press release from AVR, write Agerpres.

The discussions aimed at aspects related to the development of the coordinated control implemented on the Romanian territory at the state border crossing point Albita (Romania) – Leuseni (Republic of Moldova), the stage of the rehabilitation and modernization project of the border customs offices Albita – Leuseni, Sculeni – Sculeni and Giurgiulesti – Giurgiulesti, the implementation of the SEED+ data exchange project with the support of EU4Digital, the identification of joint projects with access to European funds, as well as the organization of experience exchanges.

The Romanian side expressed its willingness to share its experience, acquired during Romania’s accession to the European Union, in order to align the Moldovan customs system with the Community one, and reiterated its support in the implementation of European customs integration commitments within the cooperation mechanisms at the European Union level.

Considering the results of the implementation of the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova regarding the coordinated control on the territory of Romania at the crossing point of the state border Albita (Romania) – Leuseni (Republic of Moldova) by road, on the way to enter Romania, the parties agreed to the opportunity extending the validity of the Agreement.

Ion Cupa and Igor Talmazan signed the new Cooperation Plan between the two institutions regarding the intensification of cooperation in the field of anti-fraud and trade facilitation. The document includes a series of joint activities that will contribute to the development and consolidation of bilateral customs cooperation, the promotion of the efficiency of both institutions through the mutual exchange of knowledge and experience, the implementation of measures in support of the streamlining of traffic and the reduction of waiting times at the border, the professional training of customs personnel and strengthening cooperation in the field of European integration.

The representative of the Romanian Embassy in the Republic of Moldova, Stefan Krasovski Murea, Minister Counselor – Bureau of Commercial-Economic Promotion, also participated in the meeting.
