Young People’s Party resubmits request for suspension of president Iohannis

Published on

The Young People’s Party (POT) on Wednesday announced that it has resubmitted the request and signatures for the suspension of president Klaus Iohannis to the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.

The request is now signed by 178 MPs from POT, AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians), S.O.S. Romania and USR (Save Romania Union), the party states. POT leader Anamaria Gavrila stated in a post on her Facebook page that 26 signatures of USR parliamentarians have been added.

Initially, on January 16, the Young People’s Party submitted to the Chamber of Deputies the request signed by 161 POT, AUR and S.O.S parliamentarians, and, on February 3, the joint standing bureaus of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate rejected it, considering that the request did not comply with the submission procedure and was not submitted simultaneously to both Chambers of Parliament. POT resubmitted the request to both Chambers on the same day.

The joint offices of Parliament rejected it on Wednesday on the grounds that two signatures were missing, after two MPs from S.O.S. Romania resigned. The request was also rejected after USR MPs completed the missing signatures. The Young People’s Party announced that it would file a criminal complaint for abuse of office against the presidents of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, Ciprian Serban and Ilie Bolojan, respectively.
