Independent candidate Nicusor Dan, who entered the second round of the presidential election, declared that „the era in which the electorate was considered as bags of votes by some parties has ended”.

„An era in which some political parties considered the electorate as bags of votes that they moved from one side to another has ended. A political debate of society will follow and I am very optimistic that Romanian society has the resources of wisdom to go in the right direction”, Nicusor Dan said on Monday at his campaign headquarters.

Asked if he had communicated with the coalition leaders, his opponents or the interim president, Ilie Bolojan, he replied: „I have discussed with many people. It is normal to discuss when you are in politics, but all discussions were preliminary and confidential.”

He stressed that he would speak to voters during the two weeks of campaigning until May 18 on all channels, including online, focusing „on the essential issues, on the essential differences of vision.”

„Yes, we will try to reach them on all channels, including online (…). The important thing is that the discussion in these two weeks focuses on the essential issues, on the essential differences of vision and, as I said, the people who, unlike the vast majority of politicians, have gained the trust of society are very important in this debate”, added Nicusor Dan.

The resignation of Marcel Ciolacu from the head of the Government and the exit of the PSD from the governing coalition are perceived, at this moment, by Nicusor Dan as „a secondary element compared to the choice that Romanians have to make on May 18”. He pointed out that starting from May 19 „we must discuss governance”.

The independent candidate who entered the second round of the presidential election confessed that he did not make statements earlier because he reflected on how he would continue his campaign.

„Of course, I needed a certain reflection on the moment we are in and on the important lines on which the campaign will be conducted,” Nicusor Dan also said.
