We are living in a complicated period, fraught with challenges, and these require a firm response, based on professionalism, cooperation and fidelity to constitutional values, acting President Ilie Bolojan declared on Wednesday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace, as he welcomed a delegation of the Association of Francophone Constitutional Courts (ACCF).
„The Association of Francophone Constitutional Courts is an essential platform for promoting the rule of law, democracy and fundamental rights in the French-speaking area,” Bolojan stressed, adding that through the voice and actions of its members, this umbrella organization of rule of law guardians „supports democratic values, from the separation of powers in the state to the defense of fundamental rights and freedoms.”
„When constitutional courts act in solidarity, share best practices and support each other, the citizens’ assurance and trust in respect for the constitutional order stands to gain,” added the acting president.
Bolojan brought to mind that the Constitutional Court of Romania takes over the Association’s presidency on Wednesday, „an important responsibility which requires coordination, representation and promotion of common goals.”
„Romania supports this mandate and remains a reliable partner in the French-speaking area,” the head of the state pointed out.
In the end, Ilie Bolojan called for cooperation, arguing that „when states cooperate, they become stronger and their institutions are more functional, and the exchange of experience helps adapt to a constantly changing international environment.”
